Climate

  • Rainy Season: June to November (hot and humid)

History

The Gambia gained independence in 1965, after more than 200 years of British colonial rule. In the pre-colonial era, the region was part of powerful African empires, including the Ghana and Mali Empires.
After the decline of these empires, various Senegambian chiefdoms governed different parts of the country.
